Bay Area Notaries
of San Mateo County, California
Renewing Notaries Welcome!

per the Secretary of State:
" A Notary Public who holds a current California Notary Public commission and who has completed an approved six-hour course at least one time is required to take and satisfactorily complete an approved three-hour refresher course prior to reappointment as a Notary Public. The three-hour refresher course can only be used to satisfy the education requirement if the Notary Public is applying for a new commission before their current commission has expired."

We offer a Three Hour in-person class for Renewing Notaries

This Notary class is designed for individuals who prefer an in person class experience.
Classes are limited to five students and are held in a private home. The site is wheelchair accessible.
This class
provides the required education to renew an unexpired California Notary Public Commission.

The class uses the full 6 Hour course materials with certain pages “grayed” out but still visible. The refresher course is in full print. There are 10 Section tests throughout the materials and a final 20 question multiple choice practice test is at the end of the WorkBook. We will complete all Section review questions to ensure that you are fully prepared for your State exam. Any missed questions can then be studied in more detail.

Renewing Notary Education Information

The first step to renewing your California Notary Public Commission is education. All materials for approved classes have been reviewed and accepted by the State of California office of the Secretary of State.

After the education, the process to renew your Commission is the same as it is for NEW Notaries. The Commission number will change. You will need to fill out the Notary Public application and obtain a Live Scan background check. You will need to purchase a new Surety Bond and Notary seal. Except for the education which is 3 hours instead of 6 hours for NEW Notaries the steps are exactly the same for renewing Notaries.
